Professional Counselling with 316 Counselling Australia. Trauma and Mental Health Experts.

Counselling for First Responders

We provide professional counselling to firefighters and members of Australian fire and rescue / fire and emergency services.

Emergency first responders work in environments that most people will never experience. The role can involve repeated exposure to trauma, danger, suffering, high-pressure decisions and the responsibility of protecting others—often while managing personal stress, fatigue and emotional strain.

How we can help

At 316 Wellness Connect, we provide professional, confidential counselling for first responders living in Australia, including:

  • Emergency services personnel
  • Emergency comms officers
  • Police, firefighters, paramedics
  • Defence personnel
  • Nurses, surgeons, emergency doctors, and
  • Other frontline first responders.

Our team understands that the impact of this work does not always end when a shift finishes. Experiences from the job may affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, behaviour, sleep and sense of wellbeing.

Accessible and discreet telehealth appointments

All appointments are provided via secure telehealth, so you can access professional counselling from anywhere in Australia.

Telehealth offers a flexible and discreet alternative to attending a clinic in person. It means you can choose a private location for your appointment without the risk of being seen by a colleague attending face-to-face counselling.

Appointments can be arranged around shift work, deployments, changing rosters and other demands of first responder life. Whether you are at home, travelling or temporarily located elsewhere in Australia, support is available wherever you are.

Private and confidential

Your counselling sessions are private. We do not report what you discuss to your employer, colleagues or any other organisation. With appointments provided via telehealth, you can access support discreetly and choose a private setting that feels comfortable for you. Your employer will not be told that you attended counselling or what was discussed in your sessions.

Confidentiality is maintained unless disclosure is required by law—for example, where there is a serious and immediate risk to someone’s safety or another legal obligation applies. Any limits to confidentiality will be explained clearly so you are always informed and aware.

What to know

No referral is required. You can attend one session to talk through a particular concern, or choose ongoing therapeutic support. There is no pressure to commit to counselling beyond what feels right for you.

Support for those who support others

As a way of recognising the demands and sacrifices of first responder work, we offer a discounted rate for first responders.

You do not need to wait until things become overwhelming. Whether you are processing a recent incident, dealing with the cumulative impact of the work, or trying to protect your relationships and wellbeing, support is available.
